We are deeply saddened by the loss of our fellow doctoral student Amir Ashrafi Habibabadi and his wife (from the Institute of Fluid Dynamics, IFD). They were on board the flight PS752, which crashed near Tehran on Jan 8, 2020. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends and colleagues at IFD. We wish them strength in this difficult time. Amir will be missed very much as a colleague and dear friend. AV-MAVT is here to support the colleagues at IFD and ETH in any way possible.

AV-MAVT was celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with presumably the best Pizzeria in Zurich, NA 081! Together with the Napoletanean pizza, a huge apero was served to all doctoral and postdoctoral students of the D-MAVT. It was certainly an unforgettable evening!
This year’s AV-MAVT Beach Volleyball Tournament was a big success. The different teams played against each other on July 16 with great weather and good vibes. After the tournament, the relaxed sport event continued with BBQ and beers.

At the beginning of 2018, AV@MAVT conducted a survey on the happiness and satisfaction of doctoral students, post-docs and scientific staff. We received a total of 189 completed answers, corresponding to a response rate of 33%. The report summarizing the findings of this survey can be found here.
We want to warmly thank all of you who took the time to give us your opinion. This report was also released to the faculty members, and the main results were presented at the department conference (DK) on 15.05.2018 and sparked some discussion over the highlighted issues. We are looking forward to more fruitful discussions with the department based on these results!
In the frame of the “Respect” campaign, an ETH Zürich wide Code of Conduct has been released. The new Code of Conduct acts as a guideline for how members of our community should treat each other. You can learn more about the campaign and read the code of conduct here.
Within the course of doctoral studies, an annual report is officially required by Art 15.3 of the Ordinance of Doctoral studies ETH Zurich, but until now was not enforced in the MAVT department. As a result of the work of a working group composed of representatives of the PhD students and the professors, an annual report form that has to be filled each year has been approved at the last department conference (DK). You might have seen it in an e-mail from Velonà Maddalena sent on Thursday, March 29th 2018. In addition to restating the rules governing ETH as a whole, the department of MAVT acknowledged that the funding responsibility until the date of thesis submission lies with the professor and not with the doctoral student. AV-MAVT strongly encourages you to use the form in your interest, as this is its purpose.
